3 Reasons Why World War Z is Not Your Ordinary Zombie Apocalypse Movie
I just wanna say for the record that I love sci-fi movies. I guess it's an aftereffect of being a Science major. I love movies that make me think more than movies that make me cry. That's exactly the reason why I endured 30 minutes of torment deciding which movie to watch last week - After Earth or World War Z. If it weren't for my sister's presence and undeniably reasonable point that Will Smith and Jayden Smith together in a movie is a definition of overkill, I would've gone for the father-son duo. Long story short, we bought our usual movie food and watched World War Z. I had no regrets.
Here are the 3 Reasons Why World War Z is Not Your Ordinary Zombie Apocalypse Movie.
- It's entitled World War Z. Admit it. We all thought it's a war movie where Brad Pitt is a general or a rogue soldier or something. That makes more sense than what it actually is.
- Zombies in this movie are like the zombies in the Resident Evil franchise, Dawn of the Dead and The Walking Dead COMBINED. I swear, I have never seen zombies run that fast and it only takes them 12 seconds to infect someone. It's like they're a special kind of the undead that can climb ridiculously narrow staircases faster than Roadrunner. That part of the movie was so heart-stopping I almost popped my red iced tea on my face.
- It actually had a solution to the outbreak. This is what made the movie so freakin' brilliant I walked out of the movie house feeling ten times smarter. It's not really a solution that everyone would want at the end of this kind of movie where everyone gets healed of the virus and lives happily ever after. It went way beyond the conventional fairy tale ending, a more realistic one. I love how it dawned on the main character Gerry (played by Brad Pitt), that priceless Eureka! moment like in CSI and House MD. I'm not gonna tell you what it is though. You have to watch it.
Well, I do hope there's a sequel to this awesome movie. Congratulations to the cast, crew and director Marc Forster.
More to come, movie junkies!
