5 Reasons Why I Think Pitch Perfect is Incredibly Amazing
If you haven't heard about this a cappella movie, you're probably a vampire stuck in your centuries-old coffin or a martian. Seriously. It's been like a week and I still haven't recovered from this movie's oozing awesomeness.
This entry was supposed to be entitled "Review Blog: Pitch Perfect" just like my other review blogs but since that title's not gonna be enough to cover my being overwhelmed about this movie, I changed it to a more emotional one, not to mention catchy. So there.
Before I go on, I would like to mention the person who told me about this movie. If it weren't for him, I would've lived through the rest of my life without knowing what Pitch Perfect is. So thank you so much Dexter Brian Adrales for recommending this to me. Seriously. I feel like I owe you half of my life. Hahaha! And I miss you too by the way. *SUPER POWER BEAR HUG*
Okay. On to the main event. Here are the 5 Reasons Why I Think Pitch Perfect is Incredibly Amazing.
- The casting is perfect. Casting is one of the things I always look at when I watch movies especially those based on books. An actor/actress should always make sure that he/she gives justice to the role. Even though Pitch Perfect is not based on a book, I'm pretty convinced that Anna Kendrick (Beca) and the rest of the cast did a great job in giving life to the characters of the story. Favorite character? FAT AMY WINS BY DEFAULT! Haha!
- Even though the storyline is a little common, the scenes are not. I have to admit that I kind of knew already how the story's gonna go in the first 10 minutes with all the competition going on between two a cappella groups and whatnot. Someone's gonna be the famous underdog who would take the group to new heights and fall in love with the other group's alpha male. I get it and admittedly, it's boring but the movie compensated for that with the awesome musical scenes. Okay. I've already said enough. Just watch it and I swear on my ex's imaginary grave you won't regret it.
- The conflicts presented are realistic and affecting. I'm a movie junkie and that means I watch more movies than I should. Even though I watch different movies from different genres, sometimes, things get a little repetitive. Because of that, I sometimes find it difficult to empathize with the characters and tell myself, "Yeah. I've heard that before." But with Beca not getting the supposed-to-be already given support of her dad and Aubrey desperately trying to rebuild her a cappella group from the ashes of shame of last year's national competition, I got affected. And when a movie affects me, you can count on it to be good.
- The characters are diverse. I'm pretty sure character diversity is still lesson one in Film Making 101 but I have to give Pitch Perfect extra credit for the mix of characters. FAT AMY AND SPEECHLESS ASIAN GIRL LILLY FOR THE WIN! Haha!
- And last but definitely not the least, great tunes. I've listened to a few mash-ups before and I did appreciate them but after watching Pitch Perfect, I mentally thanked technology for making mash-ups possible. Seriously. With all the bullcrap being pulled by the so-called "next generation recording artists", the world needs a brand new music genre and a cappella mash-ups are a good place to start.
The whole time I was writing this, The Barden Bellas' finals piece was on loop and I'm two minutes away from memorizing it by heart.
Kudos to the cast and of course to the director Jason Moore. May you live forever!
More reviews to come.
Good review Pam. I was actually dreading watching Pitch Perfect, but I ended up having some fun with it due to it's strong cast, entertaining performances, and smart dialog.
