Ultimate Tiger Magic
Let me start with the humongous troll in the room (because an elephant just won't cut it) - WE LOST. My brother actually threw a fit about that particular statement. He said I shouldn't be using the collective anymore because I'm no longer part of the university. It took almost all my strength not to throw my plate full of palabok at his face (we were having early dinner that time in celebration of my late dad's birthday) as I turned to look at him sharply. Noticing my silent annoyance, he grinned and flashed a peace sign. Anyway, yeah, we lost. Of course I'm not okay with it at first because it's one of those games that we could've won but we didn't. Like my uncle always says after watching a disappointing basketball game, "Panalo na nga, naging bato pa."
I'm not really a die-hard basketball fan but we all know almost everyone turns into one if it's the UAAP, PBA or NBA playoffs. So I was one of the millions of Thomasians all over the Philippines and possibly the world who watched the championship game last Saturday against DLSU, admittedly one of strongest teams in the league. I honestly wasn't expecting UST to win this year because hello, it's La Salle but I hoped for the best. With Jeric Teng leading the team under Coach Pido's undeniable court wisdom, I counted on Espana housing the crown till next season.
I'm gonna say it's the most intense game I've ever watched. UST started strong and was able to maintain but La Salle just won't back down. Long story short, we lost like I said twice in the first paragraph of this entry. For almost half an hour, I was insanely depressed and angry but then I realized that no amount of cursing in all my online social networking accounts would turn the tables for the Tigers. So I just sucked it up, congratulated the Archers and mentally made a note to watch a live game next season and cheer my heart out for the guys of my Alma Mater. That's the Ultimate Tiger Magic - the roar of its crowd.
Anyway, I'm completely detoxed now of all the hatred over UST's loss last Saturday so I'm just gonna go ahead and post a picture here of the heroes of the game.
And also something I'm ridiculously giddy to brag about because it got a two-digit number of retweets and favorites. Forgive me. This is not something a normal person gets everyday on Twitter.
I guess that would be all.
Once again, my congratulations to the Archers and I would also like to take this opportunity to, I guess, try to calm my fellow Thomasians down. I'm pretty sure you all know the guy I'm gonna talk about here so I'm not gonna namedrop (also because I hate doing that in my blog). Don't get me wrong. I was pissed at him too for making a bad decision in such a crucial time in the game but let's cut the guy some slack. None of us knows what kind of pressure he went through at that brief moment and I bet the last thing on his mind was to throw away the game. It's definitely cliche but maybe that game wasn't for us after all. We can go all day and night for the next few days obsessing about what could have been but it's not gonna change anything. We Thomasians take pride in being the "nice guys" in the league and we can exhibit that by forgiving that particular error. We are one and next season, we growl for the win even louder.
I'm starting to sound cheesy now so I'm gonna go splash my face with hot coffee. I still have a lot of work to do.
Ciao!
